Political Science Degree Requirements 

Generally, before the end of their sophomore year, students entering the department for a political major must have passed at least two graded courses provided by the Department of Politics. The first two political science courses are regarded as requirements.

The 200-level designation for any one or both of these courses is highly advised. Make sure to finish these requirements if you’re thinking of concentrating on politics, and if at all possible, attempt to finish your analytical requirement during your sophomore year.

Although choosing a departmental track is not necessary to earn a degree in politics, some students may opt to do so and will receive an attestation from the department once they have finished the track.

How to Apply for Political Science at Princeton University

• The first step for the Political Science admission process is to review the application requirements. • After the application deadline has passed, the Political Science Program’s admissions committee will begin reviewing applications. They will consider a range of factors, including academic records, GRE scores, letters of recommendation, writing samples, and statements of academic purpose. They will also consider any relevant work or research experience, as well as any other factors that may be relevant to your application.
• Some applicants may be invited to participate in an interview as part of the admissions process. Interviews are typically conducted by members of the admissions committee or faculty members in the program. The purpose of the interview is to learn more about the applicant’s background, interests, and goals, and to assess their fit for the program.
