What Are the Selection Criteria for the Victoria University of Wellington Tongarewa Scholarship?

To be eligible for the Tongarewa Scholarship, you must be an international student who will be paying the full international fees. You must also be entering your first year of an undergraduate degree or a postgraduate degree. Also, a panel consisting of suitable Wellington University International staff will make the selection for scholars.

Here are the other regulations and conditions of the scholarship:

• You must be fully enrolled in a full-year program (as defined by Studylink) and meet the stipulated criteria and tenure of the scholarship before receiving any payment.
• Deferral of the scholarship to a later year is not possible.
• You may hold the Tongarewa Scholarship in conjunction with other awards.
• If you withdraw from the Victoria University of Wellington during the scholarship tenure or do not make satisfactory progress, you will normally be expected to partially repay the scholarship. Please inform the Scholarships Office if you plan to withdraw.
• As a recipient of the scholarship, you are expected to act as an ambassador for the Victoria University of Wellington and participate in appropriate events or marketing if requested.
• In special circumstances or to avoid hardship for candidates, the Deciding Authority may modify the terms and conditions of the scholarship at their discretion.

Tongarewa Scholarship New Zealand Application Process

To complete your online scholarship application, you will need to provide the following documents:

• A personal statement of up to 500 words, which should outline your reasons for wanting to study at Victoria University of Wellington, your academic goals, and why you deserve the scholarship. You may also include information about any leadership positions you have held or your involvement in your school or community.
• Full transcripts and other relevant documentation for the qualification you are pursuing.
• An offer of place from Victoria University of Wellington (which may be conditional or unconditional).
